Why Should I Care About SEO For My Business?

SEO – a term thrown around among bloggers and content creators like confetti. It seems like such a small thing and something you can do in mere minutes, but this “small” thing is actually one of the biggest tools you can use to get an upper edge on the competition and improve your website altogether!

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is a process that can grow a website’s organic search engine results. It uses technical and creative elements to improve your ranking, drive traffic, and increase standing in search engines.

SEO involves everything from the words you post, links you include, to the keywords you sneak in. It sounds like a lot, but once you get into that mindset, it becomes almost an automated process!

Why do I need it?

While you can use social media to drive traffic to your blog or website, it may only gather an audience for a limited time. You want your web presence to be long-lasting and timeless. Most people go to search engines to find answers, not social media, which is why you should look at search engines too when formatting your posts.

When you have the right SEO, someone can search something as vague as: “hashtags for bloggers,” and your blog post can appear at the top of the page. It can gather you thousands of visitors and bring more attention to your brand. It will also help boost your rankings so your content will pop up more often (and sometimes at the top of the list) when people search for relevant topics to yours.

How do I improve my SEO?

Why pay for advertising when you can get it for free by spending some time with your SEO? Here are some tips on the best ways to utilize this life-changing tool:


Keywords are everything. When writing a blog post, you want to include relevant keywords that one might search and find. For example, if you are looking for a girl boss book, you may search, “best girl boss books.”

If you want someone to find your girl boss book post, use the keywords available. The title could be, “The Best Girl Boss Books You Want on Your TBR List This Year.” Then, you want to make sure the keyword ‘best girl boss books’ is within the first paragraph of your post. Then, make sure the keyword is prevalent in the metadata, headings, and sprinkled throughout your text.

This way, you are covered on all bases and have a better chance at being found organically based on your keywords. If you want to know how a keyword does in the search engine, you can go to Google Keyword Planner and simply go through and find a great keyword that will get you the most traffic. (Tip: aim for keywords with high search volume and low competition)


Try to focus on inputting at least one link per post. Don’t have the “click here” wording though; write out the name of the destination. “Click here” doesn’t post any value to the search engine whereas “Pigment Art Gallery” has some great keywords that will improve the search engine rankings of your post and the one you’re linking to.


Yoast is a great SEO tool to have for your blog. It’s a plugin that you can easily install and use to help with the optimization of your website. It allows you to put a focus keyword, add a snippet and title, and lets you know how strong it is for Google. Using the colors green (good SEO), yellow (okay), and red (needs help), you can see how each post for your blog will do and work to improve your SEO skills.
